In modern times, on the other hand, The Devil is now depicted as a
romantic animal capable of the best lines. He is coupled with the
idea of sarcasm and wit. He is skeptical, down to earth, successful
and together. He nearly always loses.
The Devil of Pop Culture has inspired a lot of humor; a sarcastic
best friend-type character, who is always up to his ears in mischief
. In a lot of cases, the Devil is described as merely a balancer,
using the bipolar theory of existence where good and evil must exist
together, the absence of one denying the presence of the other. The
classic concept of the Devil has been replaced by a character with
more humanity than was earlier imagined. He is a character who is
well spoken, intelligent, persuasive and suave, the only visible flaw
being short-tempered.
Even the modern churches have changed their idea of the Devil. It
is still the same personality that inspires the idea of treachery
and earthly desires, but minus the personification. The church has
developed a more abstracted idea of the Devil, perhaps to dress its
teachings into a manner more acceptable to a society that has changed
its values from black and white into gray. The threats of Hell and
damnation have become politically incorrect...

the year 2000 reflect a duck which now squeaks, is a little smaller
and softer, has all new packaging, and floats as well or better
than any duckie on the market.
